Simple Oatmeal Bath Recipe

Oatmeal baths have been a go-to home remedy for ailments ranging from eczema to poison ivy and extend all the way back to your grandma's grandma's grandma--clearly withstanding the test of time.

Tried, tested, and true home benefits like these have stuck around because of their effectiveness in soothing and treating itchiness, from chickenpox and many other skin irritants. So keep this one handy, and adjust as needed with your favorite essential oil for an added oomph to your next bath.

  • 1 1/2 cups oatmeal (quick oats)

  • 10 - 12 drops of your favorite essential oil (skin faves include lavender, frankincense, rose or geranium)

  • 1/2 cup Epson salts (optional)

  • 3 tbsp Baking soda

  1. Grind oats, Epson salt, baking soda, and essential oil into a blender or food processor (mix until oats are finely ground)

  2. Store in a water-resistant container

  3. Add to a warm water bath and soak for 15 - 20 minutes

Throwing on your favorite tunes, lighting a candle, and remembering to moisturize after your bath are also all essential steps needing your undivided attention. Ask grandma.
